Internet Propaganda of a Candidate for the Mayor of Dhaka!

This post is not a Mayoral campaign of Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiky for the Mayor Election of Dhaka 2008. This news is published here because I found it as an interesting news and nothing else.

It looks like Bangladesh is entering cyber world for election campaign! Just in Facebook I’ve seen a Bangladeshi named Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiky is campaigning for the Mayor Election of Dhaka 2008. Well… it amazed me much. I’ve never seen any Bangladeshi candidate running propagnda in cyber world for any kind of election before. And I think we got the first one!

His name is Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiky. He has a Facebook account. He has a regular blog. And he has a campaigning page in Facebook also! It seems that Bangladesh is entering in a new era of election campaigning. Whatever I could remember that once I had read the political blog of Sajib Wajed Joy (son of Sheikh Hasina the former PM of Bangladesh) but for some reason it is now not updating anymore. Apart of this I could not recall any personal site or blog of any of our political persons. In that sense Mr. Siddiky did a great job. Also it is not a bad idea to grab the young generations by wandering in the cyber space. To my concern, nobody had done it before. No doubt that he is a learned person but the question is how perfect is he for the Mayor of Dhaka? Well if you visit is Facebook Campaign page, you’ll find some 200 supporters, and whatever I know rest of the people of Dhaka have hardly heard his name!

I am not going to the argument about his winning chances, but… hey… it is indeed a interesting fact, isn’t it?

Chronicles of My Last Few Days…

Well… it seems, my career chapter as a university faculty is going to be ended very soon. And I am returning to student life again. For the last few days I was really busy with my admission process in TU Delft for MSc studies. It was really a cumbersome job, to process the visa. Apart of that, this semester in AUST, I conducted the course Linear systems; one of the toughest course in entire bachelor degree of electrical and electronic engineering. It was arduous but I enjoyed it! Most probably I’ve spent my busiest month ever!

Back to the student life

I am returning to my student life, once again! After graduating from IUT, I thought my student life was over. But fate build my career as a teacher (the profession I’d never liked). As a result literally I was not a student but actually it was completely opposite. Every teacher is actually a student! I had to prepare myself for each and every classes (and the preparation was painful than my student life). So though I was addressed as a teacher but I was in fact a student. As a teacher I actually lived a life of a student!

Now as I am going to the Netherlands for higher studies, I have to kept away my current profession and going to the TU Delft as a student. According to the Times Higher Education TU Delft placed the 17th position among all the universities of the world in 2007. Not a bad university at all! I’ve to reach there before September 1st. I am already working on it. So keep me in your prayer for my success.

VISA Processing

Not a cumbersome job in real sense; if you’ve all the necessary papers properly. So here is the point – the necessary papers. In my case I didn’t actually know what are the actual papers. Thats why it took me a whole month to process it. Once you figured it out, then the whole process will be smooth. My advice regarding the visa is always make the list of necessary documents clear from the ambessy.

The Preparation

I am quite busy with shopping right now. My friend Fahim makes my preparation easier. He made a list of necessary stuffs that one should packed while travelling. That list makes the preparation simpler. Though he missed some essential commodities, but over all it is mervellous list for anyone who is travelling to other countries from BAngladesh for the first time. I wish to make that list more details in next year inshallah.

Leaving AUST

I wanted to go Netherland on study leave from AUST. But AUST admin didnot accept my leave letter. Rather they insisted me to resign. They said the leave would be against the rule. And in the last few days, AUST acted that I was actually nobody and did nothing for AUST. It was a shock for me! I don’t actually bother about my job in AUST. But right now I am very much dissapointed with this job. I am trying to resign as soon as possible. Hopefully this week I’ll break up with AUST. Apart of this I will miss my best colleague Shorif Bhai. We joined together in AUST and we shared one room in faculty area. His friendly attitude always forces me to forget that he is senior to me by almost 2 years. I’ll really miss him very very much. After returning Bangladesh if I ever visit AUST it would be for him only and nothing else (if he’ll still be there).

5 Things: Its’ a Tag!

I’ve never been into a TAG or Tagged any one. But … well… now I am starting one 🙂 . There is only one rule:  All the readers who’re  reading or commenting this post, all have been tagged! 😀 . Don’t forget to answer the questions in your own blog.

  • Smokers. Can’t tolerate smoking. 😡 Hate it!
  • Razakars. They were the war criminals of 1971 liberation war, who killed one of my Grand Father for supporting Bangladesh.
  • Hot drinks like tea or coffee. Astonished? I’ve nothing to do, but I really don’t like those. 😳

5 things I want the most

The Biggest Little Three Words

There are many things that we can do to perk up and strengthen our interpersonal relationships. Yet the most effective involves the saying of just three words. These three words can be of different forms. Those words are small in size but have immense power to brighten up your relationship. So what are those words? Just have glimpse of those words:

I’ll be there!

If you have ever had to call a friend in the middle of the night, to take a sick child to hospital or when your car has broken down some miles from home, you will know how good it feels to hear the phrase “I’ll be there.” Being there for another person is the greatest gift we can give. When we are truly present for other people, important things happen to them and us. We are renewed in love and friendship. We are restored emotionally and spiritually. Being there is at the very core of civility.

I Miss You!

Perhaps more marriages could be saved and strengthened if couples simply and sincerely said to each other “I miss you.” This powerful affirmation tells partners they are wanted, needed, desired and loved. Consider how ecstatic you would feel, if you received an unexpected phone call from your spouse in the middle of your workday, just to say “I miss you.”

I respect you!

Respect is another way of showing love. Respect conveys the feeling that another person is a true equal. If you talk to your children as if they were adults you will strengthen the bonds and become close friends. This applies to all interpersonal relationships.

Maybe you’re right!

This phrase is highly effective in diffusing an argument and restoring frayed emotions. The flip side to “maybe your right” is the humility of admitting, “Maybe I’m wrong”. Let’s face it. When you have a heated argument with someone, all you do is cement the other person’s point of view. They, or you, will not change their stance and you run the risk of seriously damaging the relationship between you. Saying “maybe you’re right” can open the door to further explore the subject, in which you may then have the opportunity to get your view across in a more rational manner.

Please forgive me!

Many broken relationships could be restored and healed if people would admit their mistakes and ask for forgiveness. All of us are vulnerable to faults, foibles and failures. A man should never be ashamed to own up that he has been in the wrong, which is saying, in other words, that he is wiser today than he was yesterday.

I thank you!

Gratitude is an exquisite form of courtesy. People who enjoy the companionship of good, close friends are those who don’t take daily courtesies for granted. They are quick to thank their friends for their many expressions of kindness.  On the other hand, people whose circle of friends is severely constricted often do not have the attitude of gratitude.

Let me help!

The best of friends see a need and try to fill it. When they spot a hurt they do what they can to heal it. Without being asked, they pitch in and help.

I understand you!

People become closer and enjoy each other more if they feel the other person accepts and understands them. Letting your spouse know in so many little ways that you understand them is one of the most powerful tools for healing your relationship. This applies to any relationship.

I love you!

Perhaps the most important three words that you can say. Telling someone that you truly love them, satisfies a person’s deepest emotional needs; the need to belong, to feel appreciated and to be wanted. Your family, your friends and you, all need to hear those three little words “I love you”.

"Praan" and "Where the hell is Matt"

I was really busy in the last month, otherwise what is the answer that I haven’t heard about Matt Harding! Whose dancing video has been watched more than 7 millions time only on YouTube. This video has been spreaded through the internet like viral. But unfortunately I came to know this news lately. It wouldn’t be even happened if I did not surf my friend Rafi’s blog.

What is in the video that make it so special? Well to be frankly there is actually nothing. A 31 years guy named Matt is dancing in different places in different countries (to be precisely 42 countries). The dance is just some unique movements of Matt (which anyone hardly can call dance). But if you see the video, I bet you’ll feel happy from inside of your soul. The uncommon dance movement from Matt … the theme of the video … people from all around the world dancing with Matt … the colorful expression of joy … the rich , soothing and vibrant music … all makes an unfathomable feelings.

Oh! Here comes the background music part. If you listen the music keenly you’ll be amazed that that is a Bangla song. Surprised! Well here is the second part of the surprise. This song titled “Praan” is taken from Robi Thakur‘s “Gitanjoli”. And the third part of the surprise is this song was sung by a 17 years old Bangladeshi teen named Palbasha Siddique.

The Bangla lyrics of the song “Praan” is given below.

The English pronunciation would be somewhat like following:

Praan
Bhulbona ar shohojete
Shei praan e mon uthbe mete
Mrittu majhe dhaka ache
Je ontohin praan

Bojre tomar baje bashi
Shey ki shohoj gaan
Shei shurete jagbo ami
Shei jhor jeno shoi anonde
Chittobinar taare
Shotto-shindhu dosh digonto
Nachao je jhonkare

Bojre tomar baje bashi
She ki shohoj gaan
Shei shurete jagbo ami

The exact meaning of the Bangla word PRAAN in english would be LIFE. But for this video, I think the English term should express more, and the appropriate term will be somewhat like “Stream of Life”. Here is the english meaning of the lyrics: The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and dayruns through the world and dances in rhythmic measures. It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earthin numberless blades of grassand breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers. It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birthand of death, in ebb and in flow. I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life. And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.

Bangla Unicode Fonts in Firefox 3

Previously I’ve written a step by step guide for setting the Firefox up for Bangla unicode fonts. That was for Firefox 2. But that guide can also handle Firefox 3 (some of my reader have already done that and I myself also). So if you are using Firefox 3 and can’t see Bangla fonts then click here.

Another common problem is, many users are seeing the Bangla title in the tabs too small too read clearly. This can be fixed if you use Solaiman Lipi as your default Bangla unicode fonts. Click here to download Solaiman Lipi fonts. Another font with which you can resolve this problem can be downloaded from here. Also you can use Siyam Rupali for avoiding this problem. If the problem still exists then go to Vrinda Hacking; download the Vrinda font from there and put it in your Windows’ Font folder replacing the older one. It should make your Bangla look better. (I myself didn’t try with the Vrinda font, because I got the better look with the Solaiman Lipi font and I actually don’t recommend Vrinda.) You also can download a lot of Bangla unicode fonts from Omicronlab.

If you are new to Bangla keyboard or facing problems in writing with Bangla fonts, you can read this article.

If you are done then welcome to Bangla Blogosphere.
