Introducing "BD Bloggerz"

I’ve recently develop a site where all the blogs from Bangladeshi bloggers will be listed. Mainly for last few days I’ve searched the web for a blog directory where all the Bangladeshi blogs but I didnot find any. Actually I found one in 3rd World’s View. I wanted to make a complete directory where any one can find any Bangladeshi blog in a simple and easy way. And here comes BD Bloggerz.

I’ve listed as many blogs as I could, but for listing all the blogs I need the help of all the Bangladeshi bloggers. It is a open request to all – please make post in your blog about this site and please inform others by any means, it may be by email or forum posts.

Google Chrome

Today I got the link of Google Chrome in the Google Search Engine page. It looks like Google is entering to the world of web browser. Curiously I installed it. But well I don’t see any thing specially useful for the user in Chrome. It is working with same principal as the Fireforx. The only difference is it has a startup page where most recently viewed web sites are displayed in thumbnail (actually quite larger than thumbnail) view. And ofcourse it has a very simple look like the other Google services. It can’t handle the Bangla Fonts smoothly unlike Firefox. But yet Google said that it is just the beginning and it has a long path to go to be a perfect web browser. As it is Beta so the time has not come yet to discuss about it. Let’s see what will be the Chrome looks like in future!

Blog Day 2008!

Well I’ve never heard of it earlier. But it exists! it is Blog Day. A complete day for blogging. And the day is today, August 31,2008. Well… this day obviously has some themes. This day inspires all the bloggers to have one day dedicated to get knowing other blogs and bloggers from around the world. Also on that day Bloggers will recommend other blogs to their blog visitors.

So according to the Blog Day manifesto, here are blogs that I am recommending to visit to my readers.

Save the Google Page Creator

It is really a shocking news that Google is going to collapse it’s Google Page Creator (GPC). Instead of GPC they are introducing Google Sites (GS). I’ve noticed it recently. I couldn’t resist my surprise at this news. GPC is a simple way to create web pages without knowing HTML. GPC’s rich text editor is now included in many other Google services, but Google decided to focus on the more powerful GS. Google doesn’t allow new users to sign up for GPC. While current users are still able to use the services of GPC, new users are being directed to its sister site, Google Sites. Google is expected to move all Page Creator content to Google Pages later in the year.

Google Sites is almost similar to GPC. I said ‘almost’ because it doesn’t allow users to upload any HTML file. Which means users have to pick the websites’ look from GS’s default template; users don’t have any privilege to set their own HTML pages. It is a bad news for me, because all of my GPC sites are using their own HTML files not GPC’s default one. Though Google said that they will shift all the files, images and web pages stored in GPC to Google Sites later this year, this may be a concern for some as it will lead to broken links because GS and GPC follows a different URL structure. More over as GS doesn’t support any uploaded HTML pages, the transition may permanently delete all of those unsupported files. To me, GPC is far far better than GS.

I actually have no idea why Google is closing their one of the most popular web services. Google Sites is nothing more than a wiki. Do the people need a website or a wiki for their personal or business homepage? Google is saying that GS is more powerful than GPC as GS uses the contents management. Well… this is the only thing the GPC is lacking of. Wouldn’t it be better if the feature is added in GPC? Wiki is obviously an important feature in today’s internet, but people will not like it as their home page. So, what if both GPC and GS are staying side by side? I don’t any necessity of closing either one for surviving the other.

Users of GPC is already depressed hearing this news. They still believe that GPC will not be closed at all some how. They have also taken an initiative to save the GPC by a petition. The same debate is going on Google Page Creator Discussion Group. I recommend every GPC user to sign the petition. And above all I still believe that the world really still needs Google Page Creator. So a request to Google, “Can’t you please save the Google Page Creator from it’s termination!“

Internet Propaganda of a Candidate for the Mayor of Dhaka!

This post is not a Mayoral campaign of Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiky for the Mayor Election of Dhaka 2008. This news is published here because I found it as an interesting news and nothing else.

It looks like Bangladesh is entering cyber world for election campaign! Just in Facebook I’ve seen a Bangladeshi named Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiky is campaigning for the Mayor Election of Dhaka 2008. Well… it amazed me much. I’ve never seen any Bangladeshi candidate running propagnda in cyber world for any kind of election before. And I think we got the first one!

His name is Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiky. He has a ~~Facebook account~~. He has a regular blog. And he has a campaigning page in ~~Facebook~~ also! It seems that Bangladesh is entering in a new era of election campaigning. Whatever I could remember that once I had read the political blog of Sajib Wajed Joy (son of Sheikh Hasina the former PM of Bangladesh) but for some reason it is now not updating anymore. Apart of this I could not recall any personal site or blog of any of our political persons. In that sense Mr. Siddiky did a great job. Also it is not a bad idea to grab the young generations by wandering in the cyber space. To my concern, nobody had done it before. No doubt that he is a learned person but the question is how perfect is he for the Mayor of Dhaka? Well if you visit is Facebook Campaign page, you’ll find some 200 supporters, and whatever I know rest of the people of Dhaka have hardly heard his name!

I am not going to the argument about his winning chances, but… hey… it is indeed a interesting fact, isn’t it?

A Request to All IUTians

If you are a Facebook member, you should know that in Facebook there is a scope of creating a network of college or university alumni. If you are an IUTian then you’ll sure want our own network in Facebook too. Imagine your profile in Facebook is showing that you are a member of IUT; isn’t that cool! In that case we all have to work in a body. So what’s our duty? Well it is simple… just send a request to a specific URL and for that you have to have a Facebook account.

Here is the whole procedure:

Sign in your Facebook account.

Go to the following URL (you can also copy and paste the URL to your browsers’ address bar). http://www.facebook.com/help/add_network.php?ntype=college

Type Islamic University of Technology, Dhaka in the Name of college/university text field.

Type your email in the form of xxxx@iut-dhaka.edu where xxxx is your IUTs’ email account. (In case you forget it, then just type your student ID there) Then submit it.

Then please inform other IUTians by emails or blogs or forum or any other media.

Introducing MAQtanim: My new personal site

Previously I had two websites; one is personal and another one is official. As I am a faculty of AUST, I used the second one to interact with my students. Those two sites were created with the built in templates and features of Google Pages. Those sites surely have some limitations, as Google Pages doesn’t allow to edit their templates. So those two never got a chance to have professional looks. Rather they looks like some novices’ creation. I was very much inclined to update them so that they looks professional and cool.

I’ve just developed my personal site. And hosted them with a nick of MAQTANIM. Well… who know me in web world they already knew that MAQTANIM is my only favorite nick. Many were surprised why did not I published my earlier websites with the nick MAQTANIM. I used to tell them that those sites were in experimental mode; when I would get time I would publish my own personal site with that famous nick. And I did it! I’ve published my personal site which has a professional outfit and my famous nick! Click here to visit my newly published personal site. This link used the URL redirection. And I also developed another site which will work as a portal between all my sites in web. Because I find it really fascinating to have a gateway for all of my creation. So anyone through only one site can reach me. So here is my new web portal MAQweb. You’ll find all of my sites name (including the oldies) in the right navigation panel. I couldn’t deducted the oldies as they inspired me to express myself in the world wide web. You’ll find them also in the navigation panel. Just remember one site and get in touch of all of my sites!

Bangladeshi Blog Aggregator: β version launched

UPDATE: Now we’ve a new Bangladeshi Blog Aggregator named BDBloggerz. All Bangladeshi bloggers are requested to submit their own blogs there.

For the last few weeks who have read and commented my post about Bangladeshi Blog Aggregator, they will be happy to know that Russell has kept his promise. He has launched the Beta version of the Bangladeshi Blog Aggregator. At last it has done. It is just the beginning. This site needs more polishing and needs an enormous way to go. But it can’t go that long without our support. As a Bangladeshi Blogger it is our duty to make a smooth way for this site. Previously some site has been lunched for the same purpose, but they failed to sustain. We hope that this time it will be a successful project.

By setting up the site, Russell did a tremendous job for all of us. We the Bangladeshi Bloggers at last got our own Blog Aggregator. We hope it will not only be a Blog Aggregator but also be a Bloggers Community for Bangladesh. Therefore I am inviting all the bloggers of Bangladeshi origins to join this aggregator.

As the site is in testing mode I have some suggestions (though I’ve mention some key features in my previous post).

As a blog aggregator I think the site needs a 3 columns theme. As a personal site a 2 column site is more suitable than a blog aggregator. Cause it has to show more thing but in less space. User may not have that much patience to scroll through the whole site. 3 sidebars instead of 3 make this job easier.
In the first page the posts are displayed in full length. A full length post does not fit in a blog aggregator. It would be more decorous if only a few lines (as excerpts) for the post (under the post heading) is displayed.
Any one have any design sense so that we’ll have a gorgeous logo and some blog badges for this newly introduced aggregator? So that we can put on them in our own blogs.

As the days go by, we hope more suggestions will come from the bloggers to develop the site.
