Ijtema cut short for biting-chilly weather

In an unprecedented incident, the three-day Biswa Ijtema, ostensibly the second largest yearly congregation of the Muslims, on the bank of Turag River at Tongi was cut short on its inaugural day yesterday due to an inclement weather that had caused deaths of at least three pilgrims. The akheri munajat or the concluding prayers of this year’s ijtema started at 7:55pm ending at 8:15pm yesterday instead of its schedule tomorrow. [The Daily Star; Saturday, January 26, 2008]

For the last two days life in Dhaka as well as else where in Bangladesh is disrupting with chilly wind and drizzles. This includes a foggy and cloudy weather through out the country. Due to this cold spell and inclement weather, the lowest temperature in Dhaka was 15.3 degrees. The difference of minimum and maximum temperature in Dhaka was only 2.4 degrees Celsius.

And yesterday was the beginning of the IJTEMA, second largest religious congregation of the Muslims after hajj, begins today on the bank of the river Turag. This year due to the political stability of Bangladesh, at least three million people from about 58 countries were expected to join. Ijtema plays a significant role in rapid dissemination of Islamic ideals and lessons of the Quran and Sunnah across the globe. Usually Ijtema holds for three days. The last day is known as AAKHERI MUNAZAT’s DAY. In the last day all the Muslims regardless scholars and ordinary people, pray to Allah (the Almighty) for establishing universal peace and strengthening unity, solidarity and fraternity in the Muslim world.

Ijtema

But the inclement weather wrapped up the whole congregation. The canopies and mats used in Ijtema grounds were damaged in the rain. The devotees collected polythene as an alternative since they were cost-effective. Many of the elderly devotees had to take shelter at various mosques and other places adjacent to the Ijtema ground. But yesterday, after evening the drizzles were turned into rain which made the authorities taking the decision of winding up Ijtema on its inaugural day, considering the sufferings of several lakh pilgrims in a bitter cold weather.

Regarding this, my opinion is that government should take necessary steps to build permanent buildings there on Ijtema ground with the help of the other Muslim countries. As it is obvious that Ijtema will be held in Bangladesh in the upcoming years like the former years, government should provide the devotees with facilities of brick-built cabins instead of canopies. It is a great issue as many Muslims scholars from around the worlds come Bangladesh only for joining Ijtema. So, I think other Muslim countries will come forward to help Bangladesh in this regard.

LabAid Cardiac Hospital – Reality Bites!

Today while I was surfing the WORDPRESS tags (which I often do), I found several post regarding LabAid under the tag Bangladesh. And all of them indicating the dark side of LabAid. That made me curious, why on earth people abhoring LabAid so much. I personally didn’t get any chance to be acquaintanced with LabAid, so I had no idea what services actually they served. For those who don’t have any idea about LabAid, it is a cardiac hospital in Bangladesh. On television they broadcast an aesthetic advertise which surely convince any patient enough to get admitted to LabAid. Watching that ad on TV anyone can be persuaded that LabAid is the #1 cardiac hospital in Bangladesh. But the articles posted in WORDPRESS, redefined LabAid from a completely new angle. They take more than a handsome amount of money as their SERVICE charge, but if it is their SERVICE then where the word HUMANITY will hide itself?

Gaming Car from SUZUKI

They named it Suzuki SXBox Xbox 360 Concept Car. It has been designed on the concept of XBOX360. From the picture two XBox 360s, 2 projectors, 2 LCD screens are visible. Also the green neon light give this car a gorgeous look. But the green rims makes it hideous. I personally prefer shimmering alloy rim. Whatever the rims look like the shape is super sporty.

Welcome to AUSTronics

I’ve been thinking for developing such a online platform where all the AUST students as well as teachers can share their technical thoughts and knowledge with the rest of the technical world. To give this idea a sense, some of my students came forward. It was really a boiling job. To make the site more lucrative and significant, we’ve decided to collect teachers articles first. By this time we make the decision where to open the site. As we need free hosting without any advertisements, we choose WORDPRESS and BLOGSPOT. WordPress does not give privilege to edit any java scripts or DHTML, which made us to confine our idea within Blogspot.

We’ve made it at last! The AUSTronics is open for all now. Surely the credits goes to my students Arif, Kanto, Razie, Shorif, Tahseen and Asif. Asif develop the site almost alone. He added a nice menu bar at the top just below the title banner. Title banner was designed by Shorif. Today when I was leaving AUST, I found Tahseen circulating the lunching news of AUSTronics by placing flyers in the notice boards.

Dear readers, who’re reading this article, please visit the site of AUSTronics. We don’t expect you to be a technical expertise but we can expect at least you can inform others about the site. By the way to participate in the AUSTronics, you don’t need to be a technical person. Your article is techno-oriented — that’s enough for us!

Tips for a Better Life

Little tips in life sometimes makes us happy. They even make our life better. What is Life? Hard to define. But all of our dream is to lead a happy life. If little tricks makes our life more enjoyable why should not we follow that! And if you want to follow any, why don’t you try this Tips-n’-Tricks feature. This article was actually published in LIFEHACK.ORG. Hope it will work in your life. Enjoy the article.

  1. Understand what it is that will make you happy. Everyone has unique requirements for attaining happiness and what makes one person happy may be very different from what makes someone else happy. Revel in your individuality and do not worry about whether or not your desires are comparable to those of your peers.
  2. Make a plan for attaining goals that you believe will make you happy. Your mood will very likely increase as your pursue your goal because you will feel better about yourself for going after something you value.
  3. Surround yourself with happy people. It is easy to begin to think negatively when you are surrounded by people who think that way. Conversely, if you are around people who are happy their emotional state will be infectious.
  4. When something goes wrong try to figure out a solution instead of wallowing in self pity. Truly happy people don’t allow set backs to affect their mood because they know that with a little thought they can turn the circumstances back to their favor.
  5. Spend a few minutes each day thinking about the things that make you happy. These few minutes will give you the opportunity to focus on the positive things in your life and will lead you to continued happiness.
  6. It’s also important to take some time each day to do something nice for yourself. Whether you treat yourself to lunch, take a long, relaxing bath or simply spend a few extra minutes on your appearance you will be subconsciously putting yourself in a better mood.
  7. Finding the humor in situations can also lead to happiness. While there are times that require you to be serious, when it is appropriate, find a way to make light of a situation that would otherwise make you unhappy.
  8. Maintaining your health is another way to achieve happiness. Being overweight or not eating nutritious foods can have a negative effect on your mood. Additionally, exercise has been known to release endorphins that give you a feeling of happiness.
  9. Finally, it is important to understand that you deserve happiness. Those who believe that they are not worthy of happiness may subconsciously sabotage their efforts to achieve happiness. If necessary, tell yourself each day that you deserve to be happy and remind yourself what steps you will take to achieve the happiness you desire.

Happy 78th Birthday, Tintin!

Last week, January 10, 2008 was the 78th birthday of Tintin, the all time great comic hero. The masterpiece revealed the adventures of Tintin in 1929 this day. Tintin was so popular in fact that more than three million books of Tintin‘s escapades are sold each year, in 58 languages. But to say the truth, you’ve not experience the real TINTIN until you’ve read it. Although the character is Belgian he is highly regarded in France. Once the late French President Charles De Gaulle had said, “… deep down, my only international rival is Tintin!“.

The first Tintin book I’ve read was Tintin in Tibet (Bangla translation) 14 years ago. And even today I feel the same excitement to read the series (again n’ again). What is lack there? Actually nothing! Tintin, with his famous spikes (tuft) of blond hair, continually battled evil with the help of his dog Snowy and the drunken Captain Haddock accompanied by the muddled genius Professor Calculus and the Thompson Twins.

The good news is that according to industry reports, Steven Spielberg and The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson are to bring Tintin to the big screen. Movie publication Variety reports that, Spielberg and Jackson are teaming to direct and produce three back-to-back features based on Georges Remi’s beloved Belgian comic-strip hero Tintin for DreamWorks. Movie will be produced in full digital 3-D using performance capture technology. Jackson’s special effects team Weta Digital has already produced a 20-minute test reel showing how the finished films might look.

5th Anniversary of iO2

Sometimes there are some special moments or date which you can’t deny for rest of your life. Because they announce what are you now today for every instance! They are the flag points in your life. They are the beginning of every success in your life. January 12 is such a day in my little life span.

January 12, the most memorable day for every IUTians of 2002 batch. This is the day of beginning of our IUT life. On 2003, January 12 we officially became the part of IUT. That day was Sunday. I can still remember the day as if it were yesterday! The day was too much foggy to see objects in a distance of three hands. I can feel the excitements of starting my university life of that day even now!

We are known as 2002 Batch in IUT as our admission procedures in IUT were completed in the year 2002 just after our HSC exam. We called ourselves as i02 (iutians 2002). While we were the students of IUT, we used to celebrate this day every year. Now time has changed, our life has changed but did our feelings change? I still feel the same attraction for that fairyland where I passed my four years. Life is harsh but sometimes it seems sweet for some moments that we hold as memory.

On this occasion, warm greetings to all i02s. Thanks to all i02 friends for supporting me in my entire IUT life. Without you I couldn’t be what I am now. Long live the friendship of i02s.

… and ofcourse thank you IUT for giving us a wonderful opportunity to live within you. I am proud of you. And I’ll be.
