Avro is in Linux!

Probably the most popular Bangla writing software Avro Phonetic is now available for Ubntu. For a long time, many linux users of Bangladesh were expecting this great news. Though there is a semi-phonetic writing tool in Ubuntu named Probhat, but still that is not considered as complete replacement of Avro.

Scim-avro, the open source edition of Avro Phonetic typing system in Linux, works as an IMEngine (plug-in) of scim (Smart Common Input Method). Scim is delivered now a day with most of the major Linux distributions, so the installation is really simple. Upto now the binary package only for Ubuntu 9.04 (32 bit) desktop edition is released. Within a very short time the source code will be available, so that you can compile it in any Linux distribution you are using.

The installation is really simple. And right now I am using it in my laptop. And it works fine except some minor bugs. But  keep in mind that it is still in beta. So the final edition will be error free.

Block Annoying Facebook Quizzes

facebook-quiz

At last I’ve gotten rid of Facebook quizzes from my Facebook home page!

I liked the Facebook and I still am. But it is getting ridiculous day by day with the increaments of quizzes. Yes I am talking about the Facebook quizzes. At first those were fun but now a days I am sick of them. Instead of  seeing what my friends are doing, I’ve to see what types of quizzes are they taken. My home page is flooded with quizzes. It was getting out of control until I got the right solution today, thanks to Maroof for pointing out the solution.

Cool Avatar Generator!

Many people are looking for creating a cool avatar for their internet identity. And maximum of them are ended up by downloading some pictures from the Google-Search. Well… there are few sites which provides users to create their own custom characters. One of them is UNIQUE by Rasterboy and another is Yahoo AVATARS.

The only problem I’ve faced is that there is no option for downloading the image of the created avatars. So for that purposes the only solution that came to my head is the using of Prnt Scrn button of keyboard. After finishing the avatar, just press the PRNT SCRN button then paste the image in any image editing software like Photoshop, ACDSee or MS Paint. And crop the avater from the whole picture then save it as JPG or BMP or PNG. Then you’re done.

Another site is Face Your Manga, where you can create your avatar with manga flavor in it. But they don’t allow a full length (head-to-toe) avatar. So if you want a full length then this site is not appropriate for you.

On the other hand DoppleMe gives the opportunity to create a full length but tiny and simple avatars. Only bottleneck of this site is that for creating a avatar, registration to that site is required.

Simpsons Movie sites provides the avatars which are customizable and which resembles the same pattern of darwing used in The Simosons.

Like the previous one, South Park Studois provides the oppertunity to create an avatar with the essence of the popular characters of South Park. One attractive function of this site is that, you can choose your avatar of different ages, which option is not included in the previous sites.
