Ubuntu 14.04 Release Party

We had the Trusty Tahr Release Party today at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), Dhaka. It was the official Ubuntu 14.04 release party of Ubuntu Bangladesh LoCo team in cooperation with “ULAB Computer Programming Club”. This time, we did it within two days of the release of Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr). To arrange the party successfully, we had to arrange several meetings with the members and the volunteers. We got an overwhelming participants responses for this party. More than 150 people confirmed to attend the party via Facebook and other online means. A volunteer team of 20 people helped us tremendously to manage this party.

The program lasted for almost 4 hours. In the first hour the open source philosophy and the true essence of Ubuntu was discussed by Mr. Faisal Al Ameen (Senior lecturer of Computer Science and Engineering Department of ULAB and also the adviser of ULAB Computer Programming Club). Which was then followed by a live desktop demonstration of newly released Trusty Tahr by me. After that there was a Q&A session conducted by Russell John and some of the volunteers. The questions were asked by the participants, among them, some had never used Ubuntu before today! Today was their first day where they heard  the name of Ubuntu. The volunteers also participated in the Q&A session to help other to understand. For the rest of the time, we had lots of chitchats (just like any other party), and of course with some snacks. Those chitchats were really helpful for the novice users, because they interacted with the volunteers and other participants to get to know more about Ubuntu and cleared out any confusions or misconceptions about it.

Apart from that, there were two booths in the party. From one booth the volunteers were distributing the ISOs of Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu and Lubuntu. And the other booth was the “installation booth”. Where the participants got the expert’s help to install Ubuntu / Kubuntu / Xubuntu / Lubuntu, in their Laptops.

Overall, everyone seemed to enjoy the party! For the successful arrangement of the party, the big thank must go to the volunteers. And also to Mr. Faisal Al Ameen (Senior Lecturer of ULAB), who is a great Ubuntu enthusiast and without his help it wouldn’t be possible to arrange this party in such a large-scale.

Here are some party photos. More photos can be found here.

  1. It was the official Ubuntu 12.04 release party of Ubuntu Bangladesh LoCo team in cooperation with “ULAB Computer Programming Club”. lol 😛
